Felt Valentine Envelopes

This was a project I did to continue teaching Kyla to sew.  She loves to sew and I saw a few Valentine's Day projects made with felt that I thought would be a great learning experience for her, so this is one:

I wanted these to ft in the small mailboxes we are using this year for family valentines, so these are the measurements I used:

4 1/2 inches by 9 inches for the rectangle.
Fold up 3 1/2 inches....leaves 2 inches for the flap of the envelope.

I added the small squares of velcro and let her sew all the edges to make the envelope.

Skills practiced: straight lines, pivoting needle at corners, back-stitching, removing pins as sewing.

Valentines for my Kids

Since we had fun mailboxes this year, I made several Valentines for my kids.  It was a lot of fun.  Pinterest had so many great ideas and tons of free printables.  Some days they got a simple note or small treat and some days I used these:

Angry Bird Cookies: (with free printable)

Lip and Mustache Suckers:
This one was super silly and made for lots of giggles at our house.  I'd seen the mustache/lips to put on suckers but this one had a super silly mouth, too.  And it came with a cute card saying.  I added the file to my print and cut and they simply had to detach the lips and insert the sucker, no scissors required.

Chocolate Coins:
And since my kids think chocolate money is a super awesome treat, I thought these printables were perfect for them: (I forgot to edit them to say daughter/son before printing but I figured my kids wouldn't care, so I just fixed it with a pen)

Jokes:
and for a few more laughs I threw in some Valentine joke printables I found.

Squeeze and a Kiss:
This was one thing I remember my mom sending to a school party when I was in elementary school.  So I made up a tag and put these together for my kids.

Love Heart Shirt

This was a shirt I got done for Kyla.  It is an image I traced.  The trace had a rough heart shape around it, so I drew a new heart around it and it smoothed it all out.  I used hot pink HTV, it really pops!

First Grade Valentine Party

I was only a "helper" for Nathan's class and got the game portion again.  I decided to do a Valentine Version of Don't Eat Pete, my kids love that game and it was fun at their Halloween Parties they had with their friends.  Then I decided instead of making my own, I would just see what printables were available and found this cute one with monsters, right along with the Valentines Nathan chose, it was a simple choice....then we used Valentine's candy corn.

It was a huge hit with the kids, perfect game for first graders in small groups!

Third Grade Party

We played Minute to Win It Valentine's Day Style.  It was a lot of fun.  We had 4 kids play at a time.  We drew names to randomly place the kids for the challenges.

Stacking  candy hearts on tongue depressors:

Move candy hearts from one plate to another using chopsticks (by the way chopsticks are hard to find, but I found them in a strange place in Walmart after asking several associates, finally a lady in electronics helped me locate them)

Unwrap candy with socks on your hands.

Unwrap Hershey Kisses using one hand....I was surprised at how well they did this one!

Bite off the end of candy corns to make a flat edge, then stack the candy corn in a circle on the plate.  Candy corn had to remain standing to count at the end.

Moving Marshmallows from one plate to another using a staw...this was harder for them than I thought it would be, but worked.

Game Prizes: Thought this idea was cute on Pinterest, so I made my own similar tag so that they had Valentine colors.  They turned out to be a great treat because it wasn't candy.

AND....we had donuts and juice for the treats.  I picked up the donuts from Walmart and made the arrows to put in them....loved how they turned out.

Valentine Teacher Gift Boxes

So I was curious if I could make clear boxes from transparency sheets...so I gave it a try.  It worked!  I used brads and vinyl hearts to hold it together.  I thought they'd be great for my kids to use for Teacher Valentines, so I let them decorate the boxes with more vinyl hearts and then cut them each a paper heart tag to address to their teachers.  They had fun and it was fun for me to learn something new.

Nathan's Monster Valentines

This year Nathan fell in love with the idea of giving these eyeball rings from Michaels, so I picked up 3 bags figuring we could do something fun with them for Valentine's Day.  So I had him work with me and we created our very own cutting file, then added some texture, the rings and a little candy to create these fun Valentine's for his first grade class:

And we made had fun making them in different colors:

Sweet and Amazing Valentine

Kyla was set on using these heart mazes for her birthday, but she didn't want anything frilly.  She was set on doing something simple, which surprised me.  We ended up making some bag toppers and placing the hershey kisses and mazes in little bags.  The "To:" and "From:" are on the back of the bag topper.

We did make some stickers to put on the Hershey kisses as well (used print and cut with the Cameo)

3rd grade and we get to make our first Valentine's box.  My little girly, girl wanted a barbie purse complete with shimmery feathers. Simple, but she had fun picking paper, designs and colors.

LOVE block

This is another cute Valentine decoration I got done this year.  I tried cutting the double sided sticky paper to add the glitter heart.  That was fun.

This is about 6 inches tall/wide.

Valentine Mailboxes

I got these cute little mailboxes from Target and had some fun decorating them with my kids.  They love to leave notes and pictures they color for each other, so I think they will have a lot of fun over the next few weeks having mailboxes to give them in!

And I got a small bucket to put some fun papers in, so they are readily available for them to spread the love...
